You can call him Slughorn...

via.

This semester I am taking a class about the Creative Process. It should be a great class for me! Interesting and possibly a little bit of an easier course that will just push me to think harder, and help find solutions about how to unblock myself when I get stuck (creatively speaking).... my teacher however...makes the class PAINFUL.

Last night was our second class of he semester. We have about 20 people in the class and so far the only thing I have learned is that we need to keep a notebook with us at all times and write down anything we see, hear, smell or find interesting...AND....the names of the people in my class.... Now, in this class we meet once a week for 2.5 hours..... I should know a LOT more....but this professor is insufferable and won't stop telling random stories about himself and who he knows! With each person who introduced themselves he would ask ridiculous questions and random "do you know ____ (insert persons name here)?" simply if that person grew up in the same city or attended the same college at some point in their lives!
He is a living and breathing Horace Slughorn! For those who don't know Slughorn, he is a character from the Harry Potter books. The following is an excerpt that explains a little more....

"" Horace was never one to take the throne. He much preferred the backseat, more room to spread out, you see. He used to handpick favorites at Hogwarts, some- times for their ambition or their brains, sometimes for their charm or their talent, and he had an uncanny knack for choosing those who would go on to become outstanding in their various fields. Horace formed a kind of club of his favorites with himself at the center, making introductions, forging useful contacts between members, and always reaping some kind of benefit in return, whether a free box of his favorite crystalized pineapple or the chance to recommend the next junior member of the Goblin Liaison Office.” Harry had a sudden and vivid mental image of a great swollen spider, spinning a web around it, twitching a thread here and there to bring its large and juicy flies a little closer. "

Seriously, it's my professor to a T! The man has dropped so many names in the two times we've been in class you would think he was reading them off of a list! Authors, speakers, millionaires, entrepreneurs....you name it and he knows 10. He also owns the patent on an item (a patent that cost between $5000-10,000 to purchase) and has never done anything with it! It's the idea of creating black baseballs that are used during practice. He said that if you practice with a black baseball which is more difficult to see, than a white one during the game will make you play 100% better!
He's an interesting guy but i'm not quite sure if I like him.... I guess only time will tell.... I just hope I start learning a little more, instead of hearing a one-man show!

Have any of you ever had a teacher that just drove you nuts? Did you eventually end up loving them? or hating them?
