My weekend!

Hello all you lovelies!
I hope everyone is having an absolutely wonderful morning! Yes, it's monday. Yes, that sucks... but i'm trying to see the best of it. I have a warm sweater on, coffee in hand and had some yummy raisin break for breakfast! This is going to be a wonderful week! I just know it! (despite the fact that I have a freaking math test on wednesday! Ick!)
Here are some scenes from my super-lovely and VERY restful weekend!!


We ordered this BEAUTIFUL Restoration Hardware duvet this weekend at 75% off! Crossing our fingers it looks just as lovely in person and matches our bedroom. We need to replace our old cover BADLY. White comforter + little dog paws = a big hot mess! We also found a gorgeous metal lampshade with floral cutouts. I couldn't find a photo online so i'll have to take one later. We're going to line it with something and hang it over my desk!


Spencer and I went shopping at the KC plaza this weekend. (for those of you who don't know the Plaza it's an up-scale outdoor shopping center with stores like Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Bebe, Bare Essentials, Apple, Tiffany's and Armani Exhange. I used to live one block up from it!) We stopped for a coffee and I got a peppermint mocha. it definitely kick-started the holiday season for me and we got a bit of our Christmas shopping done! I picked-up some peppermint coffeemate creamer too so I could have a nice little peppermint drink at home. Not quite as good at Starbucks, but still pretty tasty!


I have been meaning to get this stuff for about 6 months! But, I wanted to wait until my old makeup ran out, and I had the money to invest toward the purchase. I bought the kit this weekend and it was wonderful! First, I was told that I have gorgeous skin by the salesgirl which made me feel pretty good. :) She said it's nice to work with clients who have good skin....not as much with clients who don't since you have to be so up-close and personal... I absolutely LOVE this make-up. Flawless, soft, sheer, natural and it feels like i'm not wearing a thing! I am hoping to buy some of the eyeshadows soon. :)


We made dehydrated apples this morning! I have always LOVED dehydrated apples but never wanted to spend the money on a food dehydrator. Luckily Spencer helped me avoid that completely! We sliced up our apples with the mandolin slicer and then put them on baking sheets in a single layer and baked for 1 hour at 200 degrees, flipped them and cooked for another hour. They ended up being phenomenal! Definitely a slow process but TOTALLY worth it! The only problem was that we were eating them more quickly than we could make them! (We had them plain but some people add cinnamon, sugar or pumpkin pie spice.)


Ok, so I FINALLY got hooked. It took a few episodes but by the end of the first season I was LOVING Californication! And of course you can't just stop after one season! They leave too much to the imagination! Soooo we did what any normal people would do... We went and rented the second season and spent our entire sunday immersed in sex, drugs and rock n'roll!
My friend Steph came over to join the festivities and we put a roast in the crockpot and munched on apple chips. It was a GREAT way to spend a sunday with lots of lazy tv watching and lounging. (it fit the mood outside too since it was particularly cold and rainy all day!) Sadly, I burnt my hand in the oven when I went to pull some apples out and i'm now sporting a little kitchen war wound. :(

By the way, has anyone been inside a Blockbuster recently? They sell books now! Weird, right? It felt almost surreal to me and Spencer to go into the store. The last time Spencer used his membership card it was 2007 and he was still living with his parents!!!

A Fabulous Weekend :)

This weekend was a busy, wonderful weekend packed with excitement and activity…but before I get to that….I would like to tell you all about my new favorite thing… Shatto Milk


Shatto Milk is a small dairy farm located right outside of Kansas City. They offer milk that is free of bovine growth hormones and goes from cow to store shelves in as little as 12 hours! All milk comes in glass bottles. You pay a little extra for the bottle and are reimbursed when you return it to the store. Shatto washes and sanitizes each bottle and then reuses it for the next customer!
I took a class on sustainability this summer. The first class we were told to introduce ourselves and give a reason that we took the class. One gentleman stood up and said he was inspired to learn more about what he can do to take care of our planet when his 4 year old girl started growing breasts! She was getting too many hormones in her milk and it caused her to develop ahead of schedule They switched to Shatto and the breast buds are completely gone now! Spencer and I began drinking Shatto ourselves about a month ago. There is nothing better than a big glass with brownies or cereal, And the taste is PHENOMENAL! Skim tastes like 2% and doesn’t have that sour aftertaste that sometimes accompanies milk. Spencer even drinks it and he was never a milk fan! He likes to mix it with orange soda (which sounds disgusting to me) but he says it tastes like drinking a cream-cicle. ☺ So that is my rant for today. We here in KC are lucky to have such a wonderful company around us who deliver to all the local grocery stores. You should check it out in your own hometown and see if you have one too!
And now… here is what I did this weekend!

Saturday I woke up and played with the puppies outside while enjoying a nice bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats (and shatto milk of course). After awhile I went inside and started my day of cooking and cleaning. Spencer’s mom and dad were coming over for his moms birthday at 7:00 so I spent my day marinating steaks and cooking slow-cook green beans, cheesy potatoes, stuffed mushroom caps, prepping grilled veggies and baking a delicious mixed-berry almond gratin. (It was made with tofu to eliminate butter and had 1 tb. Sugar. I expected it wouldn’t be too flavorful but it actually might be my new favorite desert!!! I also cleaned, organized and found homes for a lot of items that have still been sitting in boxes at our house. I was a superstar and moved a HUGE solid oak dresser down to the basement BY MYSELF! I was scared I might just drop it down the stairs and was praying for my life about halfway down but I did it! (and immensely impressed Spencer). At 7:00 they showed up and we had fun chatting, watching the pups wrestle and having a few glasses of wine. They didn’t end up leaving until almost 11:00 at night! It was really wonderful and I think his mom really loved it . ☺

Sunday I did nothing. Absolutely I laid on the couch and watched movies. I finally saw Bride Was. I had heard it wasn’t too fantastic so I didn’t get my hopes up, but it was actually pretty good. Not anything to write home about, but it was very sweet and I did tear up from time to time. The puppies napped on me all day long until Spencer came home and then they were ready to go! So we packed them up in the car and headed off to the dogpark for some good quality romping time. They were exhausted by the end of the night and relaxed as we watched the premieres of The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters (DVR is awesome!) All of the shows were wonderful! Except the Cleveland Show….it was awful. Not funny. Blatently racist. I’m not a fan.

I wish it were still the weekend....

Friday I left work a little early because our new fridge was being delivered! They came and installed the new fridge, but to my dismay couldn’t take the old one! I had 2 fridges in my kitchen! I immediately posted to Craigslist with photos and ended up selling it to a girl on Saturday morning. I was so relieved! I also did a Senior Photoshoot Saturday morning and got some GREAT photos! I’m in the editing process right now but hopefully it won’t take me too terribly long to catch up! Saturday I also decided to sell the air conditioning unit from our backroom. Our backroom is a converted room that used to be a screened-in porch so it gets pretty hot back there. Last week Spencer ran air conditioning though and now its almost kind of cold! A young man who just moved to KC bought the air conditioner Sunday afternoon and seemed to be pretty happy with his purchase. :)

In addition to photographs and selling things I also watched a LOT of Lost. It’s such a great show and I am soooo hooked! I’m up to the 3rd season now but from here on out I have to watch them with Spencer since he has only seen the first 2 seasons. ☺

We also found our bedroom furniture! Last time I had looked at the Ikea website everything they had available online was uber modern and not really in my taste. When I looked again on Friday night I completely changed my mind! They had a lot more available and we ended up finding an entire system for our bedroom! All in black-brown we found a tall 2-door standing wardrobe, 2 dressers we will stack, a vanity and a tall 1-door wardrobe. I can’t wait to get everything!

Thursday of this week we are getting our floors re-finished FINALLY! We are going to stay at my moms house for the weekend while everything gets done. I’m actually really excited for it! My sister, brother-in-law and grandma are all coming into town as well for my sisters birthday and so all of us will be at moms house! I think it should be a lot of fun and a nice weekend of family topped off with going home to new flooring! ☺

My only negative point right now is that it’s a rainy dreary Monday and I really wish I was still at home lying in bed. ☺ I love sleeping in the rain.
